What is the Sarria Pilgrim Pledge?

It is a free, symbolic gesture: five promises of respect for the Camino (litter, silence, kindness, fair bookings) that pilgrims sign on the official website before starting to walk in Sarria.

Why is the pledge signed in Sarria?

Because Sarria is the great starting point of the final 100 km: in 2025, 162,038 pilgrims began their Camino here — one in every three in the world, according to the Pilgrim's Office.

The Pilgrim Pledge

Sarria is where the Caminos of 1 in every 3 pilgrims in the world begin. Before you take your first step, sign these five promises: they are how the Camino arrives in Santiago as alive as it arrives in Sarria.

I will not leave a single piece of litter on the Camiño. What I carry in my pack, I carry out with me.
I will respect the silence before dawn. I leave at 6. People sleep here too: pack in hand, not dragged.
I will greet people with a «Bo camiño» — and learn to say thank you: grazas.
I will not book more than I need. The Camiño belongs to everyone: I leave a bed for those who walk behind me.
I will leave Sarria better than I found it. And to whoever reads this: ultreia.
