How to get here

?

Sarria, historical head of an extensive and fertile region of almost 1,000 km² called Terras de Sarria and made up of 7 municipalities, is located at a crossroads 31 km south of the city of Lugo and at kilometre point 114 on the French Way of St. James.

The municipality occupies a central position in the southern half of the province of Lugo, making it a privileged enclave and a privileged place to live and an ideal place as a base camp for touring the province due to its proximity to the Eastern Sierras of Courel and Ancares, the Ribeira Sacra and the historic centre of Lugo. It is bordered to the north by the municipalities of O Páramo and Láncara, to the east by the municipality of Samos, and 20km from Triacastela in this direction; to the west by the municipality of Paradela and, finally, to the south by the municipality of O Incio.

The town of Sarria, very well connected, is crossed by the N-546 which is the road that connects Lugo with Ourense, passing through Monforte, another possibility to get to Lugo or Monforte is the Vía rápida CG 2.2. Other routes are the one from Becerreá (LU-636) and the one that comes from Pedrafita and passes through Samos and Portomarín (LU-633).

Sarria also has a railway line from A Coruña – Monforte de Lemos.

Climate and weather

Sarria’s climate combines characteristics of an oceanic climate with continental influence, as a consequence of its distance from the sea (90km) and its location within a valley.

Winters are cold, with frequent frosts, and summers are mild, with the lowest temperatures from November to March, with an average temperature of 6 °C; and the months with the highest temperatures are July and August, with an average temperature of 18 °C. The thermal oscillation is 13 °C.

.

Spring arrives in Sarria usually sometime in March / April. The days quickly become longer and warmer, which attracts people to the valley while nature flourishes all around them.
