The “Camino Conecta” conference, in Hradec Králové (Czech Republic), was the first gathering of this project that connects municipalities along the Jacobean route on both sides of Europe.
Sarria is part of CAMICE, a European project that links five municipalities of the Camino de Santiago in Spain with another five in the Czech Republic. The Association of Municipalities of the Camino de Santiago presented this collaboration this week at the international conference “Camino Conecta,” held in Hradec Králové, and it was the project’s first major gathering.
The idea behind CAMICE is simple: to bring to small and medium-sized Czech municipalities what has worked on our Camino for centuries. Hospitality, a meeting of cultures, and care for the territory, without major construction: the value lies in the villages and their heritage, and tourism is managed from the municipality so that local life doesn’t change.
During the working sessions, the Sarria team met with Jan Borůvka, mayor of Jaroměř, to look for ways to collaborate between the two municipalities. There was also time to share experiences with Kutná Hora, Červený Kostelec, and Přelouč: how they manage the route there, what works for them, and what we can learn from one another.
This collaboration will translate, between 2026 and 2027, into joint activities: traveling photographic exhibitions, promotional events, and shared pilgrimage routes.

Spain: Jaca, Estella-Lizarra, Nájera, Sahagún, and Sarria
Czech Republic: Kutná Hora, Jaroměř, Broumov, Červený Kostelec, and Přelouč
