Three ways to get to know Sarria depending on the days you have: as the starting point of the Camino de Santiago, as a base for exploring the Ribeira Sacra, or on a relaxed weekend. All three combine heritage, walking routes and good food.<\/p>\n

Sarria as a pilgrim: 5 stages to Santiago<\/h2>\n

The option most visitors choose: from Sarria there are a little over 100 km of the French Way left, the minimum distance to earn the Compostela certificate, usually walked in 5 stages. A tip: arrive a day early and spend the afternoon getting to know the town \u2014 the medieval old town, the Monastery of A Magdalena, the Homage Tower of the old castle, R\u00faa Maior and the Malec\u00f3n riverside walk all deserve that time.<\/p>\n

Stage 1 \u00b7 Sarria \u2013 Portomar\u00edn (about 22 km).<\/strong> The classic first stage: gentle climbs among oaks and chestnut trees, the hermitage of San L\u00e1zaro, and the descent to the Mi\u00f1o river to cross into Portomar\u00edn \u2014 a village that was moved, stone by stone, when the reservoir swallowed the old one.<\/li>\n
  2. Stage 2 \u00b7 Portomar\u00edn \u2013 Palas de Rei (about 25 km).<\/strong> A climb up from Portomar\u00edn and a landscape of commons and postcard villages all the way into the heart of Terra de Compostela.<\/li>\n
  3. Stage 3 \u00b7 Palas de Rei \u2013 Arz\u00faa (about 29 km), via Melide.<\/strong> The pulpo stage: Melide serves the best octopus “\u00e1 feira” on the Camino. Then Arz\u00faa, home of the PDO cheese.<\/li>\n
  4. Stage 4 \u00b7 Arz\u00faa \u2013 O Pedrouzo (about 19 km).<\/strong> A short, gentle stage among eucalyptus and riverside woods, so you arrive with energy to spare.<\/li>\n

    Sarria in 3 days (no Camino): town and Ribeira Sacra<\/h2>\n

    Sarria also works as a base for exploring inland Galicia at an easy pace \u2014 no backpack, no stages.<\/p>\n
